To mark our first Featured Musician section, it seems apt to talk about the successes of, inarguably, the hottest artist across the world today, Adele. With her incredible album, 21, which is nominated for multiple Grammys, she’s made her mark as one of the most influential and remarkable singers who, similar to the Jazz legend Billie Holiday, has the ability to tell the story through her songs that keep you completely engaged and entranced.
YouTube Artist, PeterLeeJohnson, from Seattle, Washington, is also a pretty impressive virtuoso at his instrument of choice - the violin. Having learned to play the violin from the age of four, Johnson now posts up a variety of covers of popular songs transcribed to the smooth, beautiful sound of the violin. His cover of “Someone Like You” by Adele is absolutely stunning - it seems like only a stringed instrument could carry out and express the delicate timbre of her voice and do it justice. The pizzicato verse Johnson does near the end of the song is a testament to his musical prowess and his ability to interpret seemingly unrelated musical aspects with each other. One of the biggest challenges violinists have is making sure that they’re in tune of the key they’re playing. Johnson manages not only to stay in tune, but produce exquisite embellishments that elevate Adele’s masterpiece to a whole new level. Music is all about progression and this cover of “Someone Like You” certainly is.
